best comedies ever

An all-time favorite movie of mine is 1999’s Office Space , a workplace comedy created by (who else) Beavis and Butthead honcho Mike Judge. Ron Livingston plays Peter Gibbons, a generally unhappy guy. He has an unfaithful girlfriend, an annoying neighbor, and a bad job with an even worse boss. But this all changes one day when Peter (Livingston) is persuaded into taking a hypnotherapy session. As Peter is lulled into complete and ignorant bliss, his therapist has a heart attack and dies. In his stress-free state of mind Peter decides to go home and sleep through work the next day. Coincidentally, it’s the same day Initech is laying off many of its employees. Peter (Ron Livingston) eventually comes to work, sits down with the firing committee, the Bobs (John C McGinley and Paul Willson), who promote him, while his two friends at work, Samir Nagheenanajar and Michael Bolton, get fired. A side note: one of the best parts is when Michael Bolton sits down with the Bobs, both of whom are fanatic fans of the musician by the same name, and essentially gets fired because of his disliking for the singer he refers to as a “no-talent a**-clown.” Officespace delivers...

Peter, Samir, and Michael hatch a slick plan to upload a virus into the company computer system. They put the plan to work with hilarious consequences. During all this, Peter pursues a local waitress, Joanna (played by Jennifer Aniston).

funniest comedies

It is a warm film filled with many classic lines and memorable characters. Having worked many bad jobs in my lifetime, I can relate to the almost-depressing monotony and feeling of utter boredom that can be paraphrased as having a bad job. The film is ridiculously funny and gets better with every viewing. But probably the most important thing about it to me is how the humor works. It’s not really like anything I’ve seen, but it should be. Office Space kind of sets up its own comedic boundaries which happen to be more clever than 99% of the other stuff out there, all the while staying humble. I appreciate filmmakers who “get it” without forcing it into people’s brains. Officespace is one of the funniest comedy films ever made, and easily makes it onto the best movies ever list.
